Coeburn Tool: Dreams Realized

Our dream started in a little town in the middle of nowhere known as Coeburn, Virginia. Once a booming railroad (then coal) metropolis, it was rich with businesses, opportunities, and thriving local communities. Located in Wise County along the Guest River, Coeburn was originally named Guest Station, traditionally thought to be named after Christopher Gist, a land surveyor and explorer for the Ohio Land Company in 1751.

Then in 1894, the name was changed to Coeburn in honor of W. W. Coe, Chief Engineer of the N&W Railroad, and Judge W. E. Burns. Since the decline of coal businesses in Coeburn, our city has struggled for new ways to revive the town and induce growth. Various ideas have been suggested and enacted to grow this once flourishing area, especially in terms of tourism and local businesses. Coeburn has invested thousands of dollars into funding community improvements. Countless of restoration projects and new businesses, such as restaurants, breweries, small retailers of books, music, pottery, wine, etc., have been suggested and approved by local councils and boards. Coeburn has even joined forces with neighboring areas to draw in people with annual festivals, year-round ATV routes, and national recreation trails/parks. Though the population of Coeburn has increased, the lack of opportunities and growth could never be more apparent. Many outside of these downtown urban areas have no idea that Coeburn exists, let alone what it can offer. Thus some local residents decided to band together to create Coeburn Tool. Though several years in the making, Coeburn Tool was made official by the launch of the Coeburn Tool website in 2022.

With Coeburn Tool, we hope to increase the knowledge of our town's history and popular landmarks. We hope to spark interest in our area and encourage our supporters to spread what they've learned, maybe even dare them to visit. Our mission is to grow Coeburn Tool and spread the history of our town's humble beginnings in the hopes that our local communities can benefit financially, economically, environmentally and socially. Coeburn has so much to offer, and with Coeburn Tool, we hope to show the world just how true that is.

Many of our products are designed and/or made in the USA by local artisans. Some of our paracord lanyards are composed from USA made paracord and are hand-woven by St. Paulians (locals who hail from St. Paul, a neighboring town to Coeburn). Our knife & t-shirt designs come from brilliant, Coeburn minds, inspired by popular town attractions, famous local landmarks and the extensive outdoor/knife community. We hope you see just how much Coeburn has to offer.

Why do you charge for shipping?
At Coeburn Tool, we do not inflate the prices of our knives to automatically include shipping costs as other companies do. We charge you the same price we pay the shipper to insure and ship your package.
Why weren't my specific delivery instructions followed?
We attempt to leave specific shipping instructions whenever they are requested. However, it is up to USPS, UPS, and FedEx to ensure those instructions are followed.
Why do you not offer Worldwide International shipping to my international address?
Unfortunately at this time we are not equipped to ship internationally. However, if you live outside of the USA you can use an international reshipper to ship your package to you from their Global Fulfillment Center. Naturally, there is a charge for reshipment, so one must check the global reshipping processing center for more information. Address of the global reshipping center must be used for shipping address at checkout.
Why was I charged additional fees for my international package?
Some countries choose to charge additional border taxes and/or fees on international packages. Unfortunately, Coeburn Tool has no control over these fees, if they occur, or how much they will cost. These fees are the responsibility of the purchaser, not Coeburn Tool.

General Knife

Is my knife Limited Edition?
Some of our knives are limited edition. Typically, our limited edition knives will come with a card that details; who it was inspected by, what number the knife is, how many were made, and verification that the knife is 100% Coeburn Tool authentic. We also detail if the knife is limited edition on our website, alongside the limited edition knife.
I just bought a used Coeburn Tool Knife. Can you tell me if it is authentic?
In some cases, with a photo, we can provide limited information, such as a year of manufacture, the designer, and where it may have been made. However to avoid purchasing fakes, we suggest you purchase any Coeburn Tool knives from us or approved Coeburn Tool dealers.
What type of Steel do you use?
On our first knife, the Clinch, we used M390 steel. This steel has great edge retention, which means your knife will retain its sharpness for a very long time. This means you don't have to sharpen your knife as often, and as a result your knife will last longer.
M390 is one of the new "super steels". It is an ultra premium steel manufactured by Bohler-Uddeholm. It is a martenistic steel produced with third generation powder metallurgy. It offers extremely high wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Bohler is calling it a "micro-clean" steel, and it has a very fine grain size structure. It is very close in composition to CPM-20CV. Many are calling it the ultimate knife steel as it excels in so many of the important properties of knife steels. M390 can be polished to achieve a true mirror polish finish. Some have said that M390's corrosion resistance ranks just under H1. Carbon – 1.9%, Silicon – 0.7%, Manganese – 0.3%, Chromium – 20%, Molybdenum – 1%, Vanadium – 4%, Tungsten 0.6% with a typical Rockwell of 60-62 Rc.
What type of finish do you use on your knives?
We use several different finishes depending on the knife. It is important that our non-stainless steel knives have some type of coating to help prevent rust. You will only need to maintain the sharpened edges and any engraving on coated knives. Typically, our knives will come with a card that details what the blade finish is, along with additional knife specifications like; blade length, blade edge, blade steel, overall length, handle material, clip position, clip material and lock type.
